The highest mountain 🏔️ in Oman is Jebel Shams (Jabal Shams) and part of the Hajar range. The summit is actually restricted area and it's not possible to get near the summit. For all outdoor enthusiasts, the highest point you can visit is the south summit (Hike W4) and you will get to 3'002m (officially 2'997m).
We had plan A and B ready for today. Unfortunately we had to go with plan B.
A) Doing the famous Balcony walk (W6) from Al Khitaym to the Abandoned village. From there, it's a Via Ferrata back up to the plateau. Then we wanted to run the summit and back. But we couldn't rent the safety equipment for the Via Ferrata part and based on old videos we decided it might be to exposed without proper equipment.
B) Just running to the Jebel Shams south summit (W4) and back.
Plan B was actually enough for today as my legs are still tired and on the downhills every step hurt. But happy to have done it as the views are spectacular! 🤩
